Yes, there is no denying it,we are living in a digital era and many things around us as we have known it has changed right before our eyes. How we have done things in the past has changed and will continue to do so as technology advances and demonstrates its effectiveness and usefulness. There was a time where our regulatory agencies would request information or we would need data from them that would be communicated over the phone and followed up with delivery of documentation via postal mail service. Well now, thanks to technology, we are more efficient in the exchange of student licensing records. In order to function in collaboration with organizations and other pertinent agencies, we must be equipped with the resources and tools that enables us to interact seamlessly and with ease.
Pictured below features our partnership with one of our regulatory agencies, The Jefferson County Barber Commission, who oversees barbers in Jefferson County. This was our accreditation day which included a workshop that covered how to navigate through the website that I will need access to for reporting data and retrieving reports such as graduates that have become licensed.

Proud moments like these illustrated below is why we do what we do. My faculty and I(middle picture) have utilized the culmination of our 100+ years of industry expertise to teach and develop our students. Now with my additional competency in technology I have more to share. Career technical programs are designed to prepare students for real world work experience and with this being a digital society, I can confidently incorporate what ED510 has taught me in both the office and classroom. March 2015 Lawson State Community College was privileged to have a sitting president to visit our campus and facilitate a town hall meeting. We thought it was all a joke when we received the call from the White House and soon realized it wasn't. There have been many memorable moments over my 22 years in education and I look forward to how much more I will experience that continues to instill lifetime changes in the lives we touch as educators.
I am proud of myself for what I've learned in this course, ED510. I have never considered myself as technologically savvy and encountered many obstacles along the way this semester. With that said, what I believe I learned beyond technology was to remind students that if they put their mind into the task, it can be done. Look at me now, initially I only used "copy and paste" but now, I'm embedding links, creating digital newsletters, and using screen-casting software ! The pictures below show the balance of learning and fun with students and Alumni !
Educators are lifelong learners that wear many hats but each one is rewarding because of your contribution into changing student's lives for the better. This course ED510, has provided me with additional skills that can be incorporated into further development of our students using technology, especially those entering into business. Before taking a course on technology and teaching I had no clue as what I would be exposed to because I wasn't aware of the variety of digital resources. Now, that I have added to my qualifications, I now consider myself to be a resource to my students and faculty. Professional Development/In-service Students and Faculty at a College Fair Educators are lifelong learners so they are able to teach with confidence in an ever-changing world. Here are two quotes that I believe describes "Moments of an Educator"
"In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn"- Phil Collins "If we teach today's students as we taught yesterday's, we rob them of tomorrow"- John Dewey |
